Communication is a practice that becomes daily from the moment we are born, then the contexts are expanded and all the information received must be deciphered and understood to be decoded and coherently fed back.
Thanks to the education that the human being receives constantly and that is strengthened in the academy, it makes that communication consolidate him as a member of a society, implicitly accepting that he has responsibilities and where he should be more than a spectator, because today , we live "connected" to a globalized world of constant changes: social, economic, political, religious, ethical, moral and of course educational, where the media and Information and Communication Technologies are essential for understanding, therefore, we are "dazzled now because of computer and telematic innovations and the digitization of audiovisual signals ”(Aguaded 2001) that are part of our daily lives and that are constantly used by our students who are often unaware of the formal structure of these audiovisual languages.
That is why the Classroom Project SOCIAL SHORT FILMS FROM A POST-MODERN YOUTH PERSPECTIVE arises from the Spanish Language class to work with the eleventh grade students of the Alvernia School, based on the development of Communication and Media Competences as a general objective and which is consolidated with the making of a short film as a pedagogical product, where some social and / or cultural problems are evidenced, taking as references: Cinema and Universal Literature through works such as: The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Divine Comedy, Hamlet, The Portrait From Dorian Gray, Why me ?, among others.
In this project, some of the ICTs were approached from a triple perspective of use: as an object of study based on the knowledge, interpretation of codes and structures of some audiovisual languages, in addition to the dramatic one; as a didactic resource, through the sample of authentic material; and as a language to communicate, making pedagogical products that consolidate the process through the management of codes, understanding of messages, evidenced in their proposals, thus achieving that the students were integral, critical, reflective, creative and purposeful, strengthening their media competence through the different activities proposed for reading, analysis and understanding of universal literary works.
Who does not remember drawing little dolls at the end of several sheets of the notebook during a class and telling a short story? Without knowing, we were applying the first form of cinematographic animation that dates back to the 19th century called flipbook, it is like this as sheets of different sizes and colors, accompanied by still images that were giving shape to the lines of The Iliad written by Homer, each time more clearly and in a unique way, the students narrated that magical Greek story.
The girls of different classes became our audience to appreciate in a play the adaptations: contemporary and futuristic of the impressive epic poem of Greek Literature The Odyssey, the eleventh grade students took us to live the exciting journeys of this true hero, Odysseus, thus began to strengthen his histrionic abilities for the future actresses of his own short film.
In childhood, many of our parents made the nights become magical before going to sleep, with fantastic, romantic, sad and exciting readings, today ICTs have helped this night reading to be enjoyed by them too, audiobooks contain that attractiveness of the Radio, where the radio language (sound effects, silences, music and of course the voice), make those pages full of drawings and incredible events feel with their own life, this medium motivated us to take Dante and his Divina Comedia, to the contemporary world in a joint work where the editing part was oriented to the young people and thus be able to make use of this tool in our project.
Months passed and the plan was taking shape, William Shakespeare inspired our next work, in a Storyboard the life of Prince Hamlet was illustrated, with magazines, scissors, glue and some brightly colored pages, this illustrated script was created that evidenced the incest , the corruption, revenge and betrayal that this character experienced, a task similar to that carried out by experts to shape an idea before being brought to the big screen
A sketch led us to bring to light the reality of the Victorian Era and the fantasy of the Portrait of Dorian Gray, contextualized to today's world where weight loss creams, abstract and improvised paintings on an acrylic board, accidental blows, " rag bellies ”, the paisa accent, the aluminum foil knives, the marker mustaches, were the pretext for a humorous approach to envy, hedonism and power, described by Oscar Wilde in this classic work.
That was how we lived some of the works of Universal Literature, we felt like heroines in Greece with the epic of Homer, we went through hell, purgatory and Dante's paradise, we learned a dramatic history of the Kingdom of Denmark with Shakespeare, observe A work of art is now different after Wilde's gothic terror, these activities were aimed at strengthening the language of cinema through Universal Literature to strengthen our project.
Some cinematographic and dramatic techniques had already been addressed, the radio language was used, but it was necessary to understand an important part to start our project, the visual language and what better opportunity than the one provided by the Social Sciences area, to participate in the I Photography Contest "Bogotá en el Alvernia", where the Visual Technique Workshop could be put into practice, planes such as: the first, medium, whole and general, accompanied by angles of contrapicado, frontal, flush among others, gave the guideline to capture on photographic paper the most surprising images of our city, the winners being: Jimena Cancino, Ángela Velásquez, and María Camila Matiz, with this it was possible for the students to handle this language and implement it in their scripts and of course in their short film.
To confirm that our city is an urban and cultural setting where students can stage their short films, the work was complemented with visits to centers of interest such as the Botero Museum, showing movements, techniques and artists of Contemporary Painting and how An excuse to use an essential tool in the project, the video camera, a report was made on Tattoos as a cultural manifestation, they were interviewed: artists who make these works of art on the body, doctors and lawyers who gave their opinions from their professional vision and not Consumers of this artistic expression could be absent, some had the opportunity to converse with indigenous people who expressed their position regarding this millenary work.
The scenarios created by Tim Burton and his team, in productions such as: The Young Scissorhands, Batman, The Corpse of the Bride, The Strange World of Jack or Beetlejuice, with the technical guidance of Professor Fredy Díaz in his Physics class and aesthetics in the Castilian Language, were the excuse to build a Diorama and thus demonstrate the use of this type of models that give life to these spaces to scale in order to reduce costs, giving it a real touch and at the same time mysterious, dark. and gothic to these movies.
On some Fridays, the La Tau School Station became a small, improvised, uncomfortable but cozy movie theater, with spectators sometimes accompanied by delicious popcorn and sweets, eager to see The Children of Nobody: Tanza en Africa by the French Mehdi Charef, Blue Gypsy in a reformatory of the Bosnian Emir Kusturica, Blanca and her parents, drug addicts of the American Spike Lee, the Brazilian Kátia Lund with the brothers Bilu and João, Ciro and the theft of a rolex that leads him to live the childhood he did not have by the Italian Stefano Venerus and Song Song a Little Cat by the Chinese John Woo, short films made by UNICEF with moving stories in which nobody's children face: violence, hunger, disease and the struggle to survive.
Javier Berdem was also taken (this time as a director and not as an actor) to the theater of our school by Juan Guillermo Ramírez, a film critic from the Cinemateca Distrital, in his documentary production Invisibles, where the objective is to show a reality of the world what happens in the other reality. Bardem expressed it this way to the media: "We are not trying to save lives or change the world, but let it be seen", Juan Guillermo pressed play and in eight minutes of the short film Invisible Crimes he revealed to us the sexual violence against civilians in the Congo, putting in it shows one of the "forgotten" conflicts both by the media and by politicians.
Of course, inspiration could not be lacking to continue motivating these creative students, thanks to the authorization of Christina and Tonino, parents of the late 16-year-old film director Alexis Echavarría, who in their confirmation mentioned Henry Laguado, Director of the Bogotá Film Festival (our intermediary): "We are excited by the interest in Alexis' film and we would appreciate it if you would give a copy to Mrs. Becerra and wish her many successes with her pupils", we were able to meet one morning, where the 18 minutes of short film they were etched in our minds, touched our hearts and generated more ideas for future producers.
Feature films of different cinematographic genres such as the winner of the Oscar for best picture that year SlumdogMillionaire or Do you want to be a millionaire ?, The boy in the striped pajamas, The strange case of Benjamin Button, 21 Black Jack, the Colombian production Los viajes del viento, the Prophecy IV, Billie Eliot, Los edukadores, Escrito en el cuerpo, among others, accompanied our annual work and were part of a film weekly, which ended with the cycle of classic films such as: The Great Dictator, Gone with the Wind , White House, Citizen Kane and Psychosis that made the seventh art understand and appreciate from another perspective.
To reaffirm this long-awaited project, a thematic magazine closes our cycle, editorials with current film issues, a chronology that shows that the great transformation that has been experienced since The arrival of a train at Ciotat station, the first film seen in the built cinema in 1895 by Louis Lumière, he has not stopped making us dream, laugh, imagine, cry, get excited, sing, fly, travel, excite, that today more than ever, the seventh art continues to have an incalculable value; movie reviews, biographies of the most talented or not very virtuous directors are part of these pages, narrations accompanied by photographs, representations and symbols of this language, thus compiling the experience lived in these months.
The previous process, makes the eleventh year pupils have known the formal structure of some ICT and the language of the moving images of the curious Lumière brothers, now a film is seen from another angle, as they are more sensitive, human, they have reinforced their social and cultural vision of the postmodern world that they must live, they understand that they are more than spectators, they are agents of change in this society, intelligent, ingenious, full of ideas and dreams to be realized and that some could be captured in a few minutes, where this Longproject was consolidated in corrected, reinvented and recorded short films thanks to the collaboration of some parents who always accompanied our work, of friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, cousins, in urban, everyday or new places, with titles such as: Pin without head, Architect of my existence, Clear-mind, In limbo. Flashback… six degrees of separation, How far would you go ?, Pepper is prohibited, Stopping seconds, An immortal flight, From paper to life among others, demonstrate what the students are capable of projecting.

SHORT FILM: AN UNMATCHED EXPERIENCE
“It's amazing how you can learn from an academic project. It is hard to believe that you have so many experiences and anecdotes about that. Knowing that she started out with great ambition on the part of a teacher is incomparable. The project: Make a short film.
Carrying out a project of this magnitude was a bit difficult and complicated. Understand that the requirement was based on developing an idea, a script, a work plan which will help you follow it step by step in search of the best result. Understanding that it was not only writing, but expressing it in a certain time and with the consequence of a few images developing an unpublished story.
I learned how to follow a previous planning; I felt creative, innovative, producer, writer, director and editor. I felt how working as a team helps the results to be better than what one expects individually. I learned to respect the different perspectives of life of each one of my companions and the imposed rules. It was totally enriching and I never really thought that I would carry out a project like this; where the actors were friends or acquaintances, where the clothes were of our own creation, where the context was my neighborhood, where the camera was not professional but what one normally has at home. It's incredible how she had to take into account the shot of the scene (camera handling) and believe the professional story with a clapperboard made by ourselves.
It is a wonderful memory that I treasure in my life. It's one of those things that makes you want to tell everyone. It marked me and I can say that not only me, surely my colleagues would rate it the same ”.

"My experience in the realization of the short film project has taught me many lessons over the time that has elapsed since its realization, this project allowed me to acquire the knowledge to carry out projects that involve great team development, such as distributing functions, and acquire resources without the need for great financial expense. Likewise, it was very pleasant to know the processes of writing a script, recording and editing all the material. It allowed me to get out of the student context and get involved in social research of what more people would later observe. It was not a simple note, it was more than that, it was an inspiring, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial and creative project. How interesting it has been to have carried out this project not only because of its structure but also because of the objective behind it, projects like these allow the didactic development and social awareness of those who have had the opportunity to carry it out, as well as the work in team, collaboration and creativity, which are sometimes sorely lacking in today's education. I am very grateful to my mentor and teacher, for allowing me to expand my knowledge in activities like these. ”Ma. Camila Sánchez Ortiz
